Economic Depressions and their Effects on Society1/27/11
Economic depressions, or anything involving economics of a nation or given society, affects the society physically and mentally depending on the status of the economy. In economic depressions, when everything is priced insanely and the masses aren't making enough profits to sustain the basic necessities like shelter or food or water, desperation rises and so does opportunity for someone to become the voice of reason, of order, of hope, and of salvation. Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the president of the United States during the Great Depression was one of those great figures. The legislature that he enacted during those times were of many - few of which still exist today - and lasted only for the duration of the era of depression because of the need for them. As the economy slowly fixed itself, renewal of certain programs or acts were not needed - people were no longer shrouded by fear and inability to decide for themselves what was needed to be done - and FDR was not afraid to submit to the will of the masses when time came.
